It was like a breath of fresh air. The Sports Departments on both islands—St. Kitts and Nevis, must be heartily congratulated for organizing a matchup between the top Primary School cricketers form St. Kitts and those from Nevis.
The Nevis team was selected based on performances in the recently concluded Runako Morton/TDC competition and the ST. Kitts team, according to Coach Liddie, was selected from a recent interschool’s competition and an ensuing camp.
The match was played at the ET Willet Park and even before the toss, Assistant Coach to the St. Kitts team, Elisa Claxton, vowed that her team would ‘beat up on the Nevis team.
Skipper Carlton Pluck for the Nevis team, won the toss and confidently elected to bat first.
The St. Kitts team got off to a poor start as they lost an early wicket. However, the Nevis team assisted their cause in a huge way, by gifting all of 42 extras and exhibited some sloppy fielding, in between some rare touches of brilliance.
The St. Kitts team got to a challenging 120 for 7 in their allotted 20 overs.
Nevis in response, generally struggled, but the stand out batsmen were Omari Jones; Lyte Browne and Elroy Berkeley.
However, when off spinner Kimal Tilokani took the ball, the writing was definitely on the wall, as the Nevis batsmen were weighed in the balances and found wanting.
The young Tilokani spun webs around them and finished with the amazing figures of 5 wickets for 9 runs
