London, UK (September 29, 2015) – A charity four-ball bringing together golf media, executives and avid golf consumers, provided the setting for a three year partnership launched today between St. Kitts and Barmy Army Golf to raise the profile of the destination in the UK golf market.
The partnership, which was announced by the Honourable Lindsay Grant at a special St. Kitts Barmy Army Golf Day hosted by Burhill Golf Club in the County of Surrey, represents the first strategic golf partnership for the destination in the UK. Over a three year period, the initiative will focus on the hosting of annual St. Kitts & Barmy Army exclusive golf events, with the inaugural being launched in November 2016 .The partnership joins alliances such as the St. Kitts & Nevis Admiral’s Cup Pro-Am, now in its 6th successful year and the St. Kitts 2-ball Shootout, launched in August 2015 in conjunction with the Golf Association of Canada. Speaking at the launch event, Honourable Lindsay F.P. Grant, Minister of Tourism, International Trade, Industry and Commerce, said, “We are proud to partner with such a unique and successful organization as the Barmy Army and I am looking forward with much optimism over the next three years and the international attention this partnership will bring to our destination. Importantly, such a partnership will greatly help in making the game more accessible and affordable.” |
“With the final 9-holes of Irie Fields at Kittitian Hill soon to be opened followed by the 18-hole Tom Fazio golf course at Christophe Harbour within the next two years, St. Kitts & Nevis will be offering four championship courses for play and is well-positioned to become a destination of choice for golfers.”
Minister Grant went on to say, “We look forward to showcasing the beauty and challenges of our golf courses to Barmy Army members and have every confidence that these two beautiful islands will, in time, be viewed as a major golf hub in the Caribbean. We hope to see many of you over the coming years.” Also speaking at the event, Paul Burnham, Managing Director of the Barmy Army Ltd, said, “The Brits and in particular the Barmy Army love the Caribbean for its Cricket. We look forward now to developing our brand in the Golf world and feel St Kitts is the perfect venue for us to visit and play some quality Golf.
