St Kitts and Nevis police investigate second rape incident for this week, third in the last 30 days

Basseterre, St Kitts, December 7, 2019 – Police in St Kitts and Nevis are investigating another allegation of rape.

According to police sources, a young lady was allegedly raped early Saturday morning in a home in the village of Newton Ground.

The Newton Ground incident brings the number of reported incidents of rape to two for this week and the third in the last 30 days.

On December 1, 2019, a female was sexually assaulted in the Basseterre area.

“Investigations so far have revealed that sometime after 5:00 a.m., a male assailant held the female at knife point, pulled her into nearby bushes and assaulted her. A source has disclosed this incident occurred in the vicinity of the Seventh-day Adventist School.

The other incident occurred on November 9, when a female was sexually assaulted in the Basseterre area.

“The incident was reported at about 12:30 a.m. Investigations so far have revealed that a male assailant held the female at knife point, pulled her into near by bushes and assaulted her,” the police said. This incident occurred in the Bird Rock area.

According to a source, police have been given a description of the assailants in the Basseterre incidents.

On October 23, police said a man from St Kitts was charged with two counts of Unlawful Carnal Knowledge. The offences were committed in November 2018 and between February and March 2019.

Two men from Basseterre were also slapped with rape charges on October 25, 2019. The offences occurred on August 12, 2019.

On September 30, 2019, police formally charged a male for the offences of Burglary, Rape and Buggery committed on June 4, 2019.
