Basseterre, St. Kitts, July 25, 2013 (SKNIS): The relationship between law enforcement in St. Kitts and Nevis and the Republic of Mexico has been strengthened after a recent visit by Commissioner of Police Celvin G. Walwyn.
The Commissioner was invited to join the celebrations marking the 85th Anniversary of the Mexican Federal Police Force, which ran from July 12 to 14, 2013. During his stay, Commissioner Walwyn engaged his Mexican counterpart, Commissioner General Enrique Francisco Galindo Ceballos, about training opportunities for members of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF). The request was met with a favourable response as both men pledged to deepen cooperation between the two agencies.
The highlight of the visit saw Commissioner Walwyn accepting two awards from the Mexican authorities. During a ceremony, on July 12 at the Mexican National Police Compound in Mexico City, Commissioner Walwyn was recognized for his leadership and ongoing efforts to enhance the effectiveness of the RSCNPF. A separate award was also presented on the following day in recognition of “the relationship between both Nations.”
In the past, the Government of Mexico has given support to security initiatives in the twin-island Federation. The Latin American country funded construction of the Dieppe Bay Police Station which was opened in November 2011 and also the Tabernacle Police Station which is nearing completion.
Commissioner Walwyn told SKNIS that he was gratified to see the agency recognized internationally. The commendation comes on the heels of recent comments by Mbaranga Gasarabwe, Assistant Secretary General at the Department of Safety and Security at the United Nations who credited the police head for the “quality of work … done in securing the country.”
