St. James’ Primary Hosts ACA-Day-MIA 2018

St. James’ Parish-Nevis-It was another in the activities held to celebrate the St. James’ Primary School’s existence for the last forty years.
The school hosted its second annual ACA-DAY-MIA, to a packed hall, which also comprised of visiting teachers and students from the following schools: VOJN; Joycelyn Liburd Primary; Elizabeth Pemberton Primary and Ivor Walters Primary.
The day’s activity was held under the theme: ‘For forty years we have thrived; for forty more, let’s keep St. James’ alive.’ This winning slogan was penned by student, Latavia Powell.
The main activity of the day, was a quiz, which was uniquely set up to involve individuals and teams.
The teams were: Butlers; Manning’s and Combined villages.
The students represented grades 4 to 6 and the quiz questions were posed on Maths; Science; Language and Social studies.
Some questions were specifically geared to individuals and others allowed for team interaction.
The students generally performed well and at the end of the day, the results were as follows:
Butler’s Village-champion-40 points
Manning’s- 2nd Place -36 points
Combined Villages -3rd place–32 points
Best student-AAliyah Elliot
Second –Rihanna Howell
Third- Tyrese Jeffers
All of the students received medals and prizes, while the top team and student received trophies as well.
Interspersed with the main activity, some of the children were able to showcase their various talents, as there was an excellent rendition by the school’s steel pan orchestra; a poem by Latavia Powell and drama by grade two.
Remarks were delivered by Headmistress Ms. Danielle Wallace and Education Officer with responsibility for the school, Mrs. Ilena Mills.
Three were also very interactives sessions which involved riddles and nursery rhymes and members of the audience were able to win little gifts and prizes.
Profiles were also read of persons who had positively impacted the school in previous years. These included two Barnes Ghaut heroes in Lydia Thompson –Claxton and the late THUNDER (the beloved fifer).
