Skyla Connor, a young swimmer from St. Kitts and Nevis, has made history by securing the first medal for her country at the ongoing OECS Swimming Championships. She won a silver medal in the 50m breaststroke in the 11 to 12 age group category.
Skyla is part of the Bring It Swim Team from St. Kitts and Nevis, currently competing in St. Vincent for the 32nd edition of the OECS Swimming Championships. The team consists of 15 talented young swimmers who trained and acclimated to the pool environment in Barbados prior to the championship.
Skyla’s achievement has excited the leaders and citizens of St. Kitts and Nevis, prompting many to take to social media to congratulate her. The Department of Sports of Nevis has acknowledged her accomplishment, stating that the Ministry of Sports is proud of her silver medal win in the girls’ 11-12 age group in the 50m breaststroke at the OECS Swimming Championship in St. Vincent.
Premier of Nevis, Mark Brantley, shared a post from the St. Kitts Nevis Aquatics Federation, saying, “And we have a medal! Skyla Connor, competing in the 11-12 age category, took the silver medal in today’s 50m breaststroke. Congratulations, Skyla!”
The 32nd OECS Swimming Championships features a total of 170 swimmers from nine Caribbean countries competing in various categories. The participating nations include Antigua and Barbuda, Anguilla (first-time participants), the British Virgin Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Saint Kitts and Nevis, St. Maarten, Saint Lucia, and the host country, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
