Six Women Honored for Sporting Exploits

In an impressive ceremony, hosted by the Ministry and Department of Sports, at the Jessups Community Center, on the evening of Wednesday 9th March, six Nevisian women were honored for their exploits in sports
.
The honourees were:
Jeanette Grell-Hull-Netball
Veronica Brandy-Basketball-Administration
Tanika Liburd-Athletics
Saneldo Willet-Cricket
Kerisha Powell-Football
Judy Morton-Cricket

The ceremony was ably chaired by Mrs. Kim Singh and Minister of Sports, Hon. Eric Evelyn in his remarks lauded the awardees for their achievements and opined that they will serve as mentors for others to follow.

The feature address was delivered by the youthful athlete, Miss T’Anna Liburd, who made a marked impression with her show of confidence, as she applauded the awardees for setting the stage for younger ones like herself.

Tanika Liburd delivered a fitting response of appreciation, on behalf of all of the awardees.

One of Nevis’ finest singers, Ms. Venelle Powell serenaded the awardees with a well-received selection.

Earlier in the program, the national anthem was rendered by Ms. Kelly Edwards.

The awards were presented by the Hon. Eric Evelyn and the vote of thanks was delivered by Ms. Kerisha Powell.

Other dignitaries present at the ceremony were: Her Honour, Deputy Governor-General, Mrs. Hyleta Liburd; Hon. Hazel Brandy-Williams; Permanent Secretary, Mr. Keith Glasgow; Asst. Permanent Secretary-Mrs. D Michelle Liburd-Rawlins and Director of Sports-Jamir Claxton.
