(CHARLESTOWN, NEVIS)- The April Criminal Assizes in the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court that was scheduled to commence at the Charlestown High Court on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 has been adjourned for one week due to the unavailability of a judge.
Hence, the court will begin its assizes on Tuesday, April 16, 2013.
Six (6) matters are listed to be heard before His Lordship Justice John Benjamin. These includes one (1) murder case, three (3) counts of rape, one (1) robbery, two (2) larceny, one (1) attempted rape and one (1) indecent assault.
The lone murder case is that of Delvin Wilkerson. He stands charged with the murder of nineteen year old Chantelica Thompson.
The gruesome crime was committed on November 2, 2010 when Thompson was found stabbed to death at her Pond Hill resident. It was reported that the mother of a toddler was found lying in the house in a pool of blood with numerous stabbed wounds to her body. Wilkinson was the one who discovered the motionless body.
Also on the docket is the traversed matter involving Kimron Lawrence and Orlando Hylton. Both were charged with rape and robbery. This case began November of last year but encountered problems when attorney Denzil Hinds, attorney for one of the accused was charged with contempt of court during the trial. This caused the matter to be traversed.
The new matters involve Akeem Foster, Warren Browne, Jasper Qvist, Carlos Robinson and Temisha Jamilla Bartlette. Foster was charged with larceny while the others are charged with sexual offenses.
