Seventy-One Graduate From Taxi Drivers’ Course

Charlestown, Nevis (Wednesday, August 26, 202): Seventy-one individuals graduated from a recently conducted Taxi drivers seminar, hosted by the Ministry of Tourism.

A brief but significant graduation ceremony was hosted at NEPAC, on Wednesday, August 26, 2020.

The ceremony was ably chaired by representative form the Ministry, Ms. Nicole Liburd, the Training Coordinator, while the welcoming remarks were delivered by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism, Mr. John Hanley.

President of the Nevis Taxi Association, Mrs. Cavelle Jeffers, then admonished the newcomers to read and learn as much as possible about the history of the island and related information, so that they can pass on accurate and relevant information to the visitors.  She stated in no uncertain terms that some Taxi drivers are only able to tell visitors about Alexander Hamilton, but pointed out that the history of Nevis, is not limited to just Alexander Hamilton.

President of the Queen City Taxi Association, Mr. Curtis Morton, in warmly welcoming the newcomers into the fold, opined that they were brave, to be venturing into the taxi business, even as the island suffers under the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.

He, however, ventured to say that he also saw them as optimists, who were not looking at the bottle being half empty, but half full.  “In other words, you are telling yourselves that ‘this too shall come to pass and that you will be ready when the time comes.”  He wished them every success in their endeavours.

The program also featured an item by Mr. Ruvid Morton and remarks by the Premier of Nevis, Hon. Mark Brantley.

This was followed by the distribution of certificates and the vote of thanks, by the participant, Mr. Alvin Powell.
