There was much excitement at the Hard Times playing field on Sunday 24th February.
The VPL league continued with two teams, void of key players-SDA Jets versus GT United (The Guyanese team). However, the excitement was not lacking by any stretch of the imagination.
GT United won the toss and elected to send the Jets in.
Mortons’ Sr and Jr got the Jets off to a flying start, with the younger Morton dealing mainly in maximums.
Morton Sr was eventually run out but Jaidel Allen continued with some fine shots and when Morton Jr holed out, attempting another maximum, Kaya Wilkes helped to finish the innings with a maximum of his own.
The GT United were off to a poor start, with the Mortons restricting the aggressive Annand and Alvin, in their first two overs and picking up crucial wickets early.
However, as soon as they were replaced, Alvin went after the middle bowlers with vicious intent and he too was soon dealing in maximums.
The momentum was definitely with the Guyanese team.
With some of their key bowlers missing, Captain Curtis Morton Jr turned to 11 year old Lyte Browne (on debut), for assistance.
The youngster immediately turned the game on its head, returning the amazing bowling figures of 2 overs-3 runs and 3 wickets!
