(Washington D.C.: As the Caribbean region prepares for the 2024 Atlantic Hurricane Season, H.E. Jacinth Henry-Martin, Ambassador of Saint Kitts and Nevis to the United States, participated in a high-level virtual event entitled “Hurricane Readiness: Building Climate Resilience in the Caribbean” hosted by the Atlantic Council’s Caribbean Initiative.

The event brought together eminent speakers from the Caribbean region namely the Honourable Wilfred A. Abrahams, Minister of Home Affairs, Barbados, H.E. Jacinth Henry Martin Ambassador of Saint Kitts and Nevis to the US, Therese Turner Jones, Acting Vice President of Operations, Caribbean Development Bank, Roger Pulwarty, Senior Scientist, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and Stacy Swann, Co-Founder, Resilient Earth Capital.

Panellists explored vital strategies to bolster the region’s preparedness and resilience against hurricanes amid the growing climate crisis and discussed critical actionable solutions and collaborative endeavours to enhance the Caribbean’s climate adaptation, mitigation and recovery efforts.

The Atlantic Council is one of the premier Think Tanks in Washington D.C. which uses its platform under its Caribbean Initiative to facilitate dialogue on key priorities for Caribbean Community (CARICOM) countries inter alia climate change, energy, security cooperation and economic development aimed at fostering stronger U.S.-Caribbean relationships to promote regional stability and prosperity.
