A two-week sailing camp is currently ongoing at Oualie Beach.
The camp has been organized and is being coordinated by the Nevis Aquatic and Sailing Center and is geared towards children aged 6 years and up.
According to coordinators, Nick Dupre and Danielle Connor, the sailing camp has already gone for one week and will conclude this week Friday-20th August.
There are twenty children involved and they are being taught varying skills, based on their ages, weights and abilities.
These skills include an introduction to the boats, rigging the boats, learning and understanding different knots used in sailing, learning to capsize the boats in shallow water, so that in the event it occurs in the deep, they would know how to deal with such a situation and more.
They are taught with an emphasis on pleasure and racing.
The cost for the entire ten days of the camp was only $350.00 EC
There is also an ongoing program at Oualie Beach on Sundays and it caters to children and adults, at a cost of $120.00 per month
There is also a national Dinghy championship that will be run for two days, at the end of the month for more skilled sailors.
Information will shortly be available on the Nevis Aquatic and Sailing Center website, along with other information on ongoing camps, etc.
From the 23rd to the 27th of August, an Aquatic camp will be held, which will cater to children ages 5 to 18.
They will be taught to swim and sail and will be exposed to lessons in Biology and beach games.
Registration can be done via the organization’s website.
This current camp will conclude on Friday 20th August with a big splash, as the children will sail from Oualie beach, downwind to Yachtsman’s, where they will enjoy a grand pizza lunch and then sail back to Oualie beach, to climax the week.
Last Friday, they also had a sail across to Cockleshell beach in St. Kitts.
