Gingerland-Nevis-It is going to be a home going service, fit for a King.
A family source has confirmed that the funeral service of the late local cultural icon and musical genius, David ‘The Maestro’ Freeman, will be held this coming Saturday-9th June.
According to the source, the service will be one massive celebration of the life of the great man, who passed away on Saturday 26th May.
The service will be held at the Hard Times Playing field in Gingerland and is set to commence at 10 am with a multiplicity of tributes.
Apart from the usual tributes in poetry and song, a number of the tributes will be in the form of cultural, musical renditions, such as the big drum and the string band, aspects in which Freeman pioneered and featured, during his happier years of life.
Also expected to play a significant role during the service, are the members of the Nevis Cultural Development Foundation (NCDF), who were present at the 90th birthday celebration of the late musician, on Friday 16th February.
Premier Mark Brantley has already indicated that he has mandated Minister of Culture, Hon. Eric Evelyn, to liaise with the family, as his government is committed to assisting the family of the late ‘Maestro,’ with coordinating and covering expenses, for the funeral service.
