As the cricketing season swings into high gear, fans and enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting one of grandest spectacles on the women’s cricket calendar the Caribbean – the Cricket West Indies T20 Blaze. This year’s event bowls off on Saturday and promises to provide the thrilling, fast-paced action we have all come to love.
This year, all eyes are on the defending champions, Jamaica, as they prepare to battle it out and maintain their reign. However, their road to glory will not be easy, with teams from across the region gearing up to challenge their title.
Captain Stafanie Taylor said:
“The T20 Blaze tournament is always exciting for us because it’s the one we love the most as a team. We love the fast-paced action. As defending champions, I know we’ve got a bullseye on our backs but we’re going to use that to motivate us. We’re going to enjoy our cricket and I encourage all cricket lovers to come down to Warner Park and support not just Jamaica but all the teams and most importantly women’s cricket.”
The Barbados squad, fresh off their victory at the CG United Super50 Cup, will be stepping into the T20 Blaze arena with a winning momentum, hoping to achieve the elusive double. Another contender gearing up for glory are the Trinidad & Tobago Red Force Divas. With their strong and well-rounded squad, they are posed for contention and are certainly not to be underestimated. It will be a treat to watch their spirited performance on the pitch.
Jamaica will start against Leewards at 2:30pm, this will follow the opening match between Windward Islands and Guyana at 10am. The last match of the day will be the Red Force Divas and the Bajans at 7pm.
