World-renowned FIFA’s Referees’ Assessor, Malcolm Ramsey, on Wednesday, took time out to salute Lenroy Parris of Nevis, who was recently appointed as a FIFA Referees’ Assistant for 2022.
Lenroy, who is the son of well-known local Panist, Leroy Junior Parris, has excelled in local tournaments and has caught the eyes of the powers that be in FIFA and has received his due appointment.
Ramsey noted that Lenroy is a very talented and athletic young man, one who trains hard.
He stated that he looks very smart on the line and that must have impressed the FIFA officials.
He pointed to the fact that young Parris is an ardent lover of Basketball and it took him some time to persuade him to concentrate on officiating in Football, which could be a lot more lucrative and beneficial to him.
The youngster eventually took the advice.
Ramsey took over as Chief Referees’ instructor in the Federation in 2011 when there were only three FIFA match officials.
Now the number has progressed to eight and Ramsey is proud of the achievement.
He indicated that his ultimate goal is to be around long enough to see an official or officials from St. Kitts and Nevis, officiate in a world cup match.
He also took time out to congratulate Kittitian Tyra Wilkinson, who has created history, in becoming the first female from the Federation, to be appointed as a FIFA Assistant Referee.
He stated that she is technically sound and at age 23, can be around for at least another 20 plus years.
He used the opportunity to encourage young males and females to contact him if they are interested in officiating football.
They can contact him at 662 9685.
The SKNFA will soon be hosting the first-ever female Referees’ course, in the federation, between 19th to 24th January.
The sessions will most likely be conducted via zoom, due to the current covid-19 trends.
