BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, July 22, 2019 (Press Unit in the Office the Prime Minister) – Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris – an avid supporter of sports development – was on hand at Basketball City on Sunday (July 21) evening to witness the Inner City Conquerors basketball team win the decisive game to claim the 2019 St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla National Bank New Attitude Basketball League Premier Division Championship – the first title in team history.
The Inner City Conquerors team out of Molineux village defeated the St. Paul’s Tuff Knotts 72 to 58 Sunday night to complete the clean sweep of the defending champions.
The 2019 champions were in scoring by veteran player Troy Wattley who scored 21 points, 12 rebounds and 2 steals. He was ably assisted by Livan Lee who contributed 19 points, 12 rebounds and 2 blocked shots while Tambora Caines added another 14 points, 3 assists and 5 steals.
Prime Minister Harris, the Parliamentary Representative for Constituency Seven under which the village of Molineux falls, was given the honour of presenting the championship trophy to the 2019 champions.
Most of the players on the Inner City Conquerors team honed their basketball skills while competing at high level in the Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris Constituency Seven Basketball League.
Considered one of the longest running community basketball leagues in the country, the Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris Constituency Seven Basketball League sought to develop the sport and a competition for young persons in the constituency who have a passion for the game and who wanted events organized outside of Basseterre that would allow them to hone their talents and skills and to develop successfully as basketball players.
After Sunday night’s historic win, players and management of the Inner City Conquerors commended Prime Minister Harris for his show of support in their moment of triumph and for his support over the years through his basketball league.
