Prime Minister Dr Drew Declares Crime Should Not Be Politicised

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (SKNIS): Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, the Honourable Dr Terrance Drew, during a powerful televised address to the nation on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, declared that the fight against crime transcends political boundaries and requires a unified, society-wide effort.

“Fighting crime is not a matter of partisan politics, rather, it transcends political boundaries. It takes all of us. This is everybody’s business. It is a whole-of-society approach. It takes the parents, family members, teachers, church leaders, neighbours, the community, and civil society organisations. All of us must play our part,” Prime Minister Dr. Drew stressed.

In alignment with this vision, Dr. Drew, who also serves as the Minister of National Security, said that the Ministry has initiated preparations for a National Consultation on Crime and Violence. This consultation, he said, will bring together representatives from every sector of society to collaborate and contribute to a comprehensive strategy against crime.

Prime Minister Drew further emphasised the inclusive nature of this initiative.

“The National Consultation on Crime will invite all political organisations, all civil society organisations, and anyone who cares about this Federation, to come to the table to provide their ideas and plans for us to end this decades-long scourge of violent crime,” said the national security minister.

Dr. Drew said that this approach underscores the government’s commitment to addressing crime through a collaborative and inclusive process, reinforcing that the safety and security of the nation is a collective responsibility that goes beyond political affiliations.
