In their final warm-up game in Trinidad, West Indies made a strong statement ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024 by defeating an undermanned Australia. Nicholas Pooran and Rovman Powell’s impressive performances, with both scoring blistering half-centuries, led West Indies to a total of 257 for 4 in their 20 overs. Pooran scored 75 from just 25 balls, while Powell scored 52 from 25. Sherfane Rutherford also contributed with an unbeaten 47 from 18 balls.

Australia fielded a team with just nine players and utilized coaches as substitute fielders, a situation similar to their previous game against Namibia. Allrounder Marcus Stoinis did arrive in Trinidad on Wednesday, bringing the total number of players in the camp to 10, but he did not feature due to a delay in his kit’s arrival from Miami. George Bailey, the chair of selectors, along with assistant coaches Brad Hodge and Andre Borovec, acted as substitute fielders at various stages, with Borovec dropping Pooran.

The summarized scores are as follows:
West Indies 257 for 4: Pooran 75; Powell 52, Rutherford 47*
Zampa 2 for 62
Australia 222 for 7: Inglis 55; Ellis 39
Motie 2 for 35
West Indies won by 35 runs
