Police Investigating Shooting

Basseterre, St. Kitts, January 2, 2016, 2015 (RSCNPF): The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force is currently investigating a shooting incident in the Basseterre area. The incident occurred about 8.50pm on Friday (January 1).

Initial investigations have revealed, a 23 year old male was shot by an unknown assailant on West Independence Square Street in the vicinity of the Horsfords Furniture Showroom in Basseterre. The assailant fired a single gunshot at the victim who was transported to the J. N. France General Hospital by Police vehicle, and has been treated for his injuries.

The Forensics Unit has canvassed the scene for evidence.

“As we investigate this incident, we urge anyone who may have been in the area and may have seen or heard anything with regards to this incident to call the Police. Ensuring Citizen Safety will have to be a holistic approach, it will require the involvement of the entire community to rid our communities of this senseless violence. In 2016, I ask for the support of our citizens, our families and our communities, as we continue our efforts to ensuring safe communities for all. Together we can make a greater difference” said Assistant Commissioner of Police, Ian Queeley.

“We urge anyone with information that can assist the police in this crime, or any other crime to call any Police Station in the federation or Crime Stoppers, our confidential hotline, at 1-800-8477 to share information,” stressed ACP Queeley.
