BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, FEBRUARY 13TH 2014 (CUOPM) – St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister the Right Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas says every effort will be made to ensure that nationals of the federation take advantage of new programmes being offered by the University of the West Indies Open Campus.
Welcoming a delegation from the regional tertiary-level educational institution led by Pro-Vice Chancellor, Mr. E. Nigel Harris, during a courtesy call on Wednesday, Prime Minister Douglas lauded the UWI’s decision to offer certification in CSEC as well as certification in the assessment of skills and competency and degree programmes in Hospitality and Early Childhood Education.
Professor Harris, who was accompanied by Professor Hazel Simmons McDonald, Pro Vice Chancellor & Principal of the Open Campus and Mr. Archibald Campbell, University Bursar/Chief Financial Officer, updated Prime Minister Douglas on UWI’s efforts to make it possible to attract students in non-campus territories in creating a learning community with educators via on-line and video streaming.
The UWI hopes students or persons in the non-campus territories who cannot leave their jobs or families will use the facilities being offered.
UWI officials are in St. Kitts for meetings of the Technical Advisory Committees (TACs) scheduled to be held on Thursday, February 13, at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort.
In attendance will be the Principals, Pro Vice Chancellors, other University of the West Indies (UWI) and University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) representatives as well as Government officials from the UWI contributing countries.
