NEW YORK, NEW YORK, SEPTEMBER 24TH 2013 (CUOPM) – St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister the Right Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas on Monday night accepted the 2013 South-South Award for Renewable Energy Innovation and Information Communication Technology.
Also receiving awards during the ceremony at the South-South Headquarters in New York were the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Her Excellency Sheikh Hasina and the First Lady of the Dominican Republic.
President of the International Organization for South-South Cooperation and South-South News, His Excellency Ambassador Francis Lorenzo said the St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister is recognised for his leadership in green energy in the Caribbean.
“Under his administration, the progressive developments in the country’s energy sector from fossil fuel dependency to renewable dependency, has received the attention and admiration of the international community as it has begun efforts to diversify its energy supplies through the development of projects in wind, geothermal and solar energy,” said Ambassador Lorenzo.
He told invited guests that the South-South Cooperation and South-South News recognise “the forward thinking of the Prime Minister to utilise Information Communication Technology as a tool for development within his government’s national agenda.”
“Information Communication Technology and Renewable Energy Innovation in St. Kitts and Nevis have also aided the country’s economic expansion, generating new employment opportunities in the field of green energy, improving lives and national economic competitiveness which are critical to the economy,” said Ambassador Lorenzo.
