‘Papa’ Hits 90

Clay Ghaut –Gingerland- Wednesday 20th February, was a significant day in the life of George PAPA Herbert.
On that day, the ever energetic senior, arrived at the imposing milestone of 90 years.
At a brief ceremony held at his daughter’s home in Clay Ghaut, Minister of Social Development, Hon. Eric Evelyn, presented the celebrant with a gift basket and a plaque, complements of his Ministry, in collaboration with the City Drug Store.
Minster Evelyn congratulated him on his many years of toil in the public and private service and asked him to ‘bat on to get to the century mark.’
Several family members and friends were also on hand to extend their best wishes, including Deputy Director at the Social Services Department, Miss Joyce Moven.
The ever energetic PAPA, thanked God and everyone who had made the day extra special for him and noted that if he had his way, he would still be employed at the Public Health Department, but pointed out that they told him to go home and rest.
He still does his own shopping; goes to Charlestown on a regular basis and basically looks out for himself, with some assistance from family members.
