Basseterre, St. Kitts, February 11, 2013 (SKNIS): The Ophthalmic Unit at the Joseph N. France General Hospital (JNF) has been fitted with new ophthalmic equipment donated by the Republic of Korea to ensure it continues to provide quality eye care to its patients.
During the handing over ceremony on Friday (March 08), His Excellency Errol Maynard, Ambassador to South Korea expressed his gratitude to the Republic of Korea and explained that the Federation can learn from them in the way forward for national development.
“The government of Korea has always been good to us, always, and we are trying to learn from them,” he stated. “They came from being a colonised entity, they were colonised by Japan for many years, and have since then taken giant leaps forward as an economic power house in the world. We try hard to learn from their experiences and how they have done things.”
Consular Kin Ji-Min stated that the Republic of Korea was pleased to provide the ophthalmic equipments and commented on the relationship between the two countries.
“This stands as a testimony to the close, friendly and cooperative ties that exist between our two countries, especially in the backdrop of the 30th anniversary this year of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Korea and the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis.”
He added that he is confident that both will continuously strengthen and promote their relationship throughout the future.
The Hon. Marcella Liburd, Minister of Health, noted that the eye clinic always ensures that they provide quality service to all citizens of St. Kitts and Nevis and visitors.
“One of the reasons we are able to do that is because of the assistance of the Government and people of the Republic of Korea. They continually try to upgrade our equipment for us and this is what is happening here today to.”
St. Kitts and Nevis has enjoyed a strong diplomatic relationship with the Republic of Korea since 1983.
