Olympic Champion Julien Alfred Returns to St. Lucia to Hero’s Welcome

Julien Alfred, a double Olympic medalist, arrived at the Hewanorra International Airport in St Lucia to a warm welcome. This marked her first visit home since winning gold in the women’s 100 meters and silver in the 200 meters at the Paris Olympics. Upon her arrival, she was greeted by Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre and other high-ranking officials.

During her speech, an emotional Alfred expressed her gratitude and her desire to inspire young St Lucian athletes. She acknowledged the support she had received and her dream of being an inspiration to the youth of Saint Lucia.

Alfred also shared that her journey to success was not easy and expressed her appreciation for the support she received from her village. The Prime Minister described Alfred’s achievements as a source of inspiration and urged Saint Lucians to support the planned events celebrating her accomplishments.

The celebrations included rallies for students at the Soufriere Mini Stadium and the La Resource playing field. Additionally, Alfred visited her former school, Ciceron Primary School, for the unveiling of an iconic mural. The national celebration will conclude with a celebratory concert at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground on September 27, where her achievements will be formally honoured.
