Number Thirty Five (35) Illegal Firearm Seized By Police

Basseterre, St. Kitts, November 11, 2016 (RSCNPF): Security Forces on St. Kitts have removed yet another illegal firearm from the streets of our communities.
Acting on information received, a Search Operation was executed by officers of the Special Service Unit (SSU) and the St. Kitts Nevis Defence Force on Friday (November 11) in the Ponds Pasture area.
The illegal firearm was found hidden in a derelict vehicle.
Seized was one (1) .380 Kel Tec Pistol with five (5) rounds of .380 ammunition.
This seizure follows closely the discovery and seizure of six (6) illegal firearms found in Basseterre on Wednesday (November 09), and brings the total number of illegal firearms seized this year to thirty five (35). This is also the most firearms taken off the streets in any given year.
The removal of illegal firearms from our communities is one of deliverables of the Police Six Point Plan for the Reduction of Homicides and Violent Crimes in the Federation.
Police removed 21 Illegal firearms from our communities in 2015.
Commissioner of Police Mr. Ian M. Queeley has expressed gratitude for a changing tide in citizens sharing information with the Police. Commissioner Queeley said, “it is this level of cooperation that will help us in our efforts to ensure continued citizen safety in the Federation.” He added, “If you see something, say something. You are also encouraged to call Crime Stoppers the anonymous hotline at 1-800-8477(TIPS). I urge our citizens to call and share any information with regards to crime.”
