NIA CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (September 04, 2013) — Premier of Nevis and Minister of Education in the Nevis Island Administration
He made the disclosure on September 02, 2013 in a televised address to mark the opening of the 2013-2014 school year on Nevis.
“During this year, we will institute a definitive process of evaluation and assessment of all teachers in our schools in addition to evaluation of the schools themselves and this is to see that each person understands his role in the education of our system and that they are charged with the delivery of a high quality of education to make the future of our country bright, safe and prosperous,” he said.
Mr. Amory said he was aware that teachers and members of the civil service generally have concerns but during 2013 it was his intention to meet with as many persons in the service and in the schools.
“I intend to visit all of the schools to carry on the dialogue with the Heads and teachers as necessary to ensure that we get the best for our children and our country,” he said.
Meantime, the Nevis Education Minister disclosed that in preparation for the new school year, he had established a committee made up of the Permanent Secretaries of Human Resources and Education, the Principal Assistant Secretary in the Premier’s Ministry, the Senior Officer with responsibility for the Public Service Commission matters, the Cabinet Secretary and himself to discuss staffing in response to a request by the Permanent Secretary of Education.
He said the relevant discussions were essential to put together the best combination to manage the Education System in Nevis.
In conclusion, Mr. Amory wished for a successful school year.
“I wish everyone as we start this new school year success and that we can get the best out of all our resources as we seek to develop our children and change the culture of our country,” he said.
