Great news! The Nevis Historical Society has once again been selected as a recipient of the prestigious and highly competitive U.S. Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP) grant, funded through the U.S. Embassy Bridgetown.
On Friday, September 20th, the official grant signing ceremony and reception took place at Bath Hotel, where NHCS Director Terysia Herbert and U.S. Ambassador Roger Nyhus signed the grant documents to mark NHCS’ official acceptance of the grant. Deputy Governor-General, Her Honour Hyleeta Liburd, Premier Mark Brantley, and Minister of Health and Social Empowerment, Honourable Jahnel Nisbett, were all in attendance at this momentous occasion.
We are grateful for the continued support of the Nevis Island Administration (NIA) and the Ministry of Tourism Nevis. Following the ceremony, NHCS Board President Richard Lupinacci offered attendees a tour of both the Bath Hotel and the recently refurbished Hot Springs.
The NHCS received its first AFCP grant in 2022 to begin the restoration of the Bath Hotel, and this new grant will provide the additional funding necessary to continue the efforts to completely restore this historic building to be fully functional and open to the public. Bath Hotel is an important part of the fabric of Nevis’s history and culture, and in collaboration with the Nevisian community, we look forward to restoring the site to a space that Nevisians can be proud of.
