A sizeable crowd showed up at the ET Willet Park, on Saturday, February 22, 2020, to witness another encounter, in the series of matches between the Nevis female Cricket team and the St. Kitts female Cricket team.
The Nevis team won the toss and elected to bat first. A fine and exact half a ton by Melissa Clarke was the mainstay of the Nevis innings, but there were also solid knocks from Rozel Liburd and Ashina Freeman. Nevis getting to 135 in their allotted 20 overs.
The St. Kitts team started shakily and at one point was dicely placed on 38 for three, which included two run-outs. However, woman of the match, Elissa Claxton and Kaiye Hanley, batted undefeated to the end of the innings and must have given the partisan crowd some heart palpitations, as they edged closer and closer to the target.
However, even though the Nevisian lasses were not getting the wickets, they kept a fairly tight rein on the scoring rate and the Kittitians required over 30 runs from the final over and it proved just a bit too much.
Summarized scores:
Nevis females: 135 for 6 in 20 overs: Melissa Clarke 50; Ashina Freeman 14; Rozel Liburd 14
