The 2016 edition of the Caribbean Union of Teachers (CUT) games, were held in Tortola in the BVI at the AO Shirley Recreation Ground, from Friday 15th to Saturday 16th July.
A seventeen member team from Nevis, represented in various disciplines.
The athletes and the management team returned to Nevis on Monday 18th July.
Manager of the team, Miss Ercia Blake revealed that the top three placers were:
1st Jamaica
2nd Barbados
3rd St.Kitts
Nevis placed 9th from the twelve competing teams.
The athletes competed in the following categories: Under 9; under 11; under 13 and under 15.
According to Coach Kurvin Wallace, the athletes all gave of their best and performed creditably. However a few of them came up with their personal best:
Jule Scarborough ran under 13 seconds for the first time in his life and got a bronze medal in the 100 meters and the only medal for the Nevis team.
Juliska Mills-personal best distance in the long jump.
D’Atryl Stanley-personal best in the 400 meters event.
The next CUT games is scheduled for 2018 in Bermuda and Wallace used the opportunity to ask the Nevisian public to give even more support to the athletes and assist them as much as possible, so that can bring back more outstanding performances.
Blake and Wallace also took time out to thank the numerous sponsors and coaches who assisted the team and also the Nevisians in the BVI, who stepped up to the plate to assist the Nevisian team in a real way, in terms of making their stay very comfortable.
