Nevis Association of South Florida donates to Flamboyant Nursing Home

NIA CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (MAY 20, 2014) – The Nevis Association of South Florida donated 107 boxes of adult protective underwear, 52 boxes of size medium and 55 boxes of size large to the Flamboyant Nursing Home on May 19, 2014, during a brief handing over ceremony there.

While delivering remarks Vice President of the Nevis Association of South Florida, Avonelle Hanley noted that the Florida-based organisation was pleased to provide assistance to Nevis.

“We know that it will be of great benefit to a lot of the recipients. However, we continue to do things like this and we take great pride in helping…It gives us great pride, great pleasure because some of us are more fortunate than others and we the Nevis Association of South Florida, we really, really, really, take great pride in assisting in any way that we can,” she said.

In response, Supervisor of the Flamboyant Nursing Home, Ena Sutton thanked the Association for the donation and assured that the gift would be used for the comfort of the residents.

“Thanks has become a household word for the Flamboyant Nursing Home and it also gives me great pride and pleasure to thank you on behalf of your Association. There is a cliché that says ‘action speaks louder than words’ and this is a real demonstration of it. We do believe that it’s not only you who would like us to deliver quality care here but you have demonstrated that you want us to deliver quality care here

“I want to assure you that these ‘pull-ups’ will go to ensure that our residents are comfortable. They are not only physically comfortable but they smell comfortable and they are comfortable. So thank you again Ms Avonelle and please convey our real gratitude to your organization and let your organization know that we will be looking for some more Pampers next year and the year after. In other words we see to it being a continuous activity so thank you very much,” she said.

Meantime Acting Premier and Minister of Health in the Nevis Island Administration (NIA) Hon Mark Brantley who witnessed the hand over, registered gratitude for the donation to the Home.
“It always gives me pleasure when I see our people regardless of where they happen to be living at the moment maintain that connection with Nevis and this Association in South Florida is one of many in the United States and elsewhere who continue to give back to the island and what a wonderful gift this is. Something which clearly demonstrates, Avonelle, the views and ethos of your organisation…I think these ‘pull-ups’ will certainly be to the benefit of the residents here…

“What we are trying to do is to provide quality care for the residents here and so these go a long way in assisting us. I do, like Nurse Sutton, look forward to a continued partnership with Nevisians in South Florida, as you continue to give back to this island that you love so much. I know that you are only temporarily in South Florida, wherever you happen to be, your heart is still with us and so this is a tangible demonstration of action speaking louder than words and we are very grateful for this.

Mr. Brantley also used the opportunity to urge others to follow in the footsteps of the Florida-based Association and donate to Nevis.

“We encourage others, like yourselves, to continue to make that contribution, to continue to demonstrate in word and in deed that Nevis continues to be special and important to all of us regardless of where we happen to be living at the moment.

“We are very grateful for this and we encourage others like yourselves to continue to make that contribution, to continue to demonstrate in word and in deed that Nevis continues to be special and important to all of us regardless of where we happen to be living at the moment,” he said.

The Minister expressed the Administration’s gratitude and was hopeful that the partnership between the Association and the Nevis Island Administration would continue.

“Please convey the Administrations gratitude to your organization and of course I know the organization well and we will continue that partnership and that dialogue with you, to ensure that Nevis continues to benefit and that you, of course, continue to benefit as well in fulfilling the mandate of your organization. So thank you very much for all that you’re doing and your assistance today,” he said.

Also present at the ceremony were Hospital Administrator Gary Pemberton, Assistant Hospital Administrator Johnson Morton and Acting Matron at the Alexandra Hospital Sister Andriene Ward-Stanley.
