BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, FEBRUARY 24TH 2014 (CUOPM) – An observation has been made indicating evidence of positive developments in the social areas on St. Kitts.
Former senior economist at the United Nations in New York, Kittitian Mrs. Willa Liburd, who recently commented of the island’s infrastructural development, blogged of an increasing number of young people involved in church activity and churches assisting in the area of education.
“I am seeing an increasing number of young people attending Church, and very smartly, a few churches that I have attended recently all seem to have a especially dedicated Sunday each month for youths, where the young people basically take charge of the service, and I must say do quite a good job,” Mrs. Liburd posted on yahoogroups.com.
She also observed that quite a number of churches are engaged in pre-primary and primary education, returning to one of the main activities churches undertook when they first came to the Caribbean/West Indies centuries ago.
“It is hoped that these church-related activities would help strengthen the moral upbringing of our youths,” Mrs. Liburd said.
“I am also hearing a lot of media announcements on competitive sporting activities including within and among schools throughout the island. There are a number of sports complexes in various communities around the island and the promotion of competitive sports is good which itself encourages personal discipline and promotes physical well being,” she added.
During the week, the Edgar T. Morris Primary School and the Newton Ground Primary School held annual sports days, the Cayon High School its Annual Steeple Chase and the Joshua Obadiah Williams Primary School its annual Walk-A-thon.
Mrs. Liburd in commenting on what she says were the many positive developments including in the physical infrastructure in St. Kitts and Nevis said it is clear that good progress is being made in a number of areas.
“What has to be ensured are policies that ensure stability, equitable and sustainable development and good political governance in all its aspects,” said Mrs. Liburd
