Without doubt, the Nevis Amateur Basketball Association would have to be voted as the top Sporting Association, on the island of Nevis, in 2015.
The Association completed two exciting local tournaments and also ensured that teams from Nevis participated in the St.Kitts-Nevis Basketball Association’s league.
Additionally, training was afforded to develop youth teams on the island and there was also training done for budding officials of the sport.
Local Basketball chief, Miss Wanda Parry has to be especially lauded, along with her hard working executive team for ensuring that the sport continues to grow and develop locally. She would also have to be voted as the top President of Sporting Associations for the year 2015.
The Association is not however sitting on its laurels and basking in what has already been achieved, but is going full speed ahead with plans for the New Year.
Miss Parry indicated that the aim of her Association is to make Basketball the number one sport on the island and so the Basketball year officially begins in January with a scorers’ workshop, facilitated by the NABA and this will be followed by a match between the under 19 team and another team to be announced, which will be used as a fund raiser towards raising funds for the senior Leeward islands tournament, which will be held in St.Maarten this year.
Other plans for the year will include a referees’ workshop hosted by the SKNABA; an under 17 tournament; the national championship league; the Malcolm Guishard league, which incidentally will be brought forward this year, to avoid the rainy season and a new innovative tournament, dubbed as ‘EAST versus WEST, which will involve a mixture of top players from the island, competing against each other.
The association will also be hosting an anti doping workshop which will be extended to all interested persons, even if they are not interested in Basketball.
Miss Parry is asking the general public to continue to support the association in all of its endeavours.
