EMU) – St. Kitts, : The Ministry of( Education plans to celebrate and highlight its societal impact early in the new school term with the launch of Education Week 2013 from September 7th to 14th.
According to Lisa – Romayne Pistana, Chairperson of the Education Week Organizing Committee, plans are already well underway and her team of committed Education officials is working assiduously to ensure the success of the event.
Celebrated under the theme “Commitment to Excellence” the week will involve the participation of the Federation’s entire education sector.
It is expected that the activities will also promote and highlight the collaborative spirit in the Ministry of Education as employees work toward ensuring that they are trained and equipped to address the challenges of 21st Century.
Also in solidarity with the Nation’s Independence Celebrations one of the national colours will be highlighted each day of that week.
The week of activities will officially open on Saturday 7th September by the Permanent Secretary after which a Fitness Walk & Social will commence that evening. On Sunday 8th September the Ministry’s employees will worship together in Basseterre at the Zion Moravian Church’s morning service. A Round Table Discussion is scheduled for Monday 9th while the following evening a Panel discussion will be aired on ZIZ.
Wednesday 11th September has been dubbed Education Pride Day to highlight their institutions programmes. All of Ministry’s offices and affiliated institutions will open their doors and the general public is invited to take the opportunity to visit. Later that evening the Annual Prime Minister’s Lecture Series will take place.
A favourite activity for Education week happens on Thursday September 12th with Ministry of Education Olympics. The public is encouraged to join the Ministry at Warner Park to cheer for their favourite house.
On Friday 13th September the Ministry salutes the Nation as we celebrate our 30th Anniversary of Independence by dubbing that day as National Pride Day. This exhibition is a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Education and their community partners and will be situated in downtown Basseterre.
During the course of the week an Education Mini Series which features different initiatives in the Education sector will be aired on television. The final event on Saturday 14th September is the Awards Ceremony during which education employees will be appreciated for their years of service and recognized for their excellence.
