Minister of Sports in the Nevis Island Administration, Hon. Eric Evelyn, on Monday, clarified the incentive package being offered to top athletes from Nevis by the administration.
Minister Evelyn noted that the Cabinet approved incentive was first pronounced by Premier Mark Brantley during a press conference and noted that the sport of Netball was not mentioned then, but that all of the sporting disciplines are indeed included in the incentive package.
He pointed out that his administration is offering duty-free concession on a vehicle, every five years, to persons from Nevis who have excelled at the international level.
In giving further explanation, Minster Evelyn stated that several cricketers from Nevis have made it to the West Indies test and one day teams; a few Netballers have made the West Indies team and an athlete would have made it to the Olympics.
Such persons can apply to the Permanent Secretary of Finance for the duty-free concession on a vehicle, once every five years.
Minister Evelyn also indicated that persons excelling at the international level in any sport, would qualify for the incentive package and opined that it should be a motivating force for upcoming athletes, to seek to excel at their sport of choice.
He also revealed that one person who has qualified for the incentive package has already applied and was successful.
