On Friday 2nd September, two members of GIMME FIVE GLOBAL ATHLETICS SUPPORT (GFW GLOBAL Athletics Support) visited Nevis, on a scouting mission
Coach François noted that he was born in Haiti and so he is fully well aware of what an opportunity given to a black student can create.
He is a testimony of that and he wants to share with other Caribbean people so that they too can get the opportunity to excel.
He explained that the trip to Nevis, was a last-minute decision, almost as if it was just destined to happen and so after meeting with Basketball officials in St. Kitts, a quick trip over to Nevis was arranged.
It all started with a meeting with Director of Sports, Jamir Claxton and this was followed up with an in-depth interview at VON radio, with popular DJ and news anchor, Jarvis Browne.
They were accompanied on their short visit, by Director of Sports, Jamir Claxton and Coach Jaekeeda Thomas.
The point was well made that even though, the original plan is to identify potential student/athletes through Basketball, the plan is for the program to be an all-inclusive sports program, which will eventually reach athletes involved in Cricket, Football, Athletics and more.
Contact information was exchanged and there will be definite follow-ups, which will eventually result in local athletes getting the opportunities that are available.
