Veteran Masters Cricketer on Nevis, Teddy BLACKMAN Liburd, suffered serious damage in a vehicular accident on the evening of Sunday 16th December, when his pickup overturned somewhere on the Bypass road at Pinneys.
BLACKMAN later revealed that he was trapped in his vehicle from sometime after midnight, until he was rescued early the following day.
He has since been hospitalized with possible spinal injuries and has been flown overseas for an operation.
President of the Nevis Master’ Cricket Association, Franklyn KUT Daniel has indicated that the Nevis Masters team has decided to come to the aid of their team mate.
First of all, during the Christmas season, team members donated personal funds to a special purse that was given to Blackman’s family and now the team is going one step further.
Just last evening, in a specially called meeting, the Nevis Masters team concluded plans to host a grand fund raising cricket match.
The match will be played at the ET Willet Park on Saturday 19th January, versus the St. Kitts Masters’ team.
The match is set to commence at 2 pm and there will be food and drinks on sale.
The general public is being cordially invited out to witness what promises to be the usual keen contest between the two teams and in the process, make donations towards the cause of BLACKMAN.
It is understood that the operations that he still has to undergo, are going to be very costly and any assistance provided, would go a long way in assisting his recovery.
BLACKMAN WAS ALSO A WELL BELOVED LOCAL DRINKS MAKER AND MADE MANY DONATIONS ON ANNUAL BASIS TO THE CHARLESTOWN SECONDARY SCHOOL, as a means of giving back, in appreciation for the school’s patronage of his business.
He still holds a local record, when a few years ago, he picked up 9 for 27 in a local club match and there is a trophy at the Sports Museum, to commemorate the significant achievement
