The ceremony was ably chaired by Coordinator of the Seniors’ division, Miss Trudy Prentice and included the invocation by Margaret Elliot; a scripture reading from Psalms 1, by Negrita Douglas; the singing of two well-known songs “God kept me” and “We’ve come this far by faith”. The singing of the birthday song was nicely accompanied by harmonica, by another senior, Mr. Theodore Kelly.

Deputy Director at the Social Services Department, Miss Joyce Moven, noted that Miss Browne is the only centenarian on the island of Nevis, at the moment and thanked the family members for their great care of the special lady.

Miss Moven singled out the wonderful care being rendered by her son Richard and his wife Denise, as being exemplary and noted that seniors are happier and more comfortable when they are allowed to exist in their natural environs and receive such great care.

Minister of Community Development, Hon. Eric Evelyn, in paying tribute to the ‘birthday girl’, spoke of her generous nature and noted that in her heyday, she looked out for everybody in the community and helped as many persons as she could.  He was quick to point out that she was from his constituency and indicated that Gingerland has a habit of producing centenarians.  He also congratulated the family members, for the magnificent way in which they are caring for the Matriarch.

Minister Evelyn then presented her with a gift basket, on behalf of his Ministry and the City Drug Store.

Family members present also expressed tributes to the special lady.
