The annual Malcolm Guishard Basketball league, got underway on Sunday 2nd June, at the Church Ground hard court.
On hand to officially declare the league open, was the Minister of Sports, Hon. Eric Evelyn.
In his remarks, he paid tribute to the organizers of the league and expressed special commendations to Premier Mark Brantley who has sponsored the league, over the years.
He noted that such tournaments are fully endorsed by his Ministry and pledged his continued support.
On hand and offering remarks as well, was Premier and sponsor of the league, Hon. Mark Brantley.
He noted that he has been sponsoring the league for some 13 years now and pledged his continued sponsorship.
He also had special words of commendation for the Nevis Amateur Basketball Association, currently led by Mr. Freddie Hanley, but showered chief coordinator of the tournament, Mrs. Wanda Parry-France, with special praise, for her organizing skills and tremendous dedication to the sport.
Immediately after the opening ceremony, the first game got on the way, between Ole Skool and CSS Lions.
The Ole Skool went to CSS and taught them a mini lesson, defeating them by a close 6 points, in an exciting game.
