The St. Kitts Music Festival Committee has issued a call to local transportation companies and taxi operators to take advantage of the high demand by mem-bers of the public for ground transfers, during the period of the upcoming festi-val.
Now that the three concert nights are being staged at the Kim Collins Athletic Stadium in Bird Rock, the need for shuttle services from downtown Basseterre to the new site has become even more important, in order to accommodate thousands travelling from rural St. Kitts, and from the sister island of Nevis, via ferry.
This appeal to taxi and other operators is also in line with one of the festival’s core objectives, which is to help small and other businesses generate more reve-nue and to spark greater economic activity in the island.
For its part, the festival itself has already led the way, and last week announced that it will be providing up to 200 free spaces at the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank Parking Lot, which is in close proximity to the stadium.
Persons hoping to use those spaces must already have their festival tickets and each vehicle is required to have no less than three other persons, who too, must already have their tickets for the concerts. Once parked they would be shuttled to the athletic stadium, free of charge.
In an earlier appeal, the committee had also reached out to ferry operators with boats plying between Nevis and St. Kitts, and some have since announced spe-cial festival schedules to facilitate the daily travel of patrons living on the sister.
Already, services have been announced by Blu Waves and Island Water Sports, but the committee is continuing to urge the operators of other ferries to do likewise.
The committee says it is committed to promoting any provider who takes the initiative to organize either a special ferry or taxi service for festival goers.
The St. Kitts Music Festival is now just days away, and will begin on Wednes-day, 26th June, continuing with three nights of concerts from Thursday, 27th – Saturday, 29th June and ending on Sunday, 30th June, with White Sands.
