The local cricket league for 2014 is all set to bowl off on Thursday, February 20, 2014 at the ET Willet Park. President of the Nevis Cricket Association, Keith Scarborough was very upbeat on Tuesday as he spoke to the commencement of the league.
He revealed that there will be an official opening ceremony which will feature addresses by a representative from the Nevis Island Administration; Cricket Development Officer in the Leeward Islands, Junie Mitcham and representatives from the various sponsors, along with himself as President of the NCA.
He was happy to point out that the NCA has attracted a few sponsors for the various tournaments planned for this year and stated that their identities will be revealed on Thursday.
Also to be revealed are the coaches and management teams for the various teams to be selected to represent Nevis this year.
Immediately after the opening ceremony which starts at 1:00 p.m. the two publicly owned Secondary Schools on the island will face off in what is expected to be a keen contest. The two schools are: Charlestown Secondary and Gingerland Secondary.
Scarborough also noted that second division matches for this year will be played on Thursdays; Saturdays and Sundays. All games will begin at 1:00 p.m.
The season will officially begin with a 10/10 tournament planned for Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd February –this coming weekend. Teams will not be required to pay a fee when they register for this particular tournament.
