Gingerland –Nevis-Lewis Elliot at 97, is still able to make everyone laugh.
At his birthday celebrations, held at the home of his son, Edson Elliot on Monday 19th February, he quipped that Edson was the father and he was the child, because apparently he had kept aspects of the celebrations, a close secret from him.
Most of his children were present, or at least represented by one his grandchildren.
There were songs, led by daughter Angelica; poems and a beautifully decorated cake, from the skilled hands of daughter, Grace, was also a show piece item.
Minister of Social Development, Hon. Eric Evelyn, congratulated the celebrant on the achievement of another milestone and also congratulated the family for taking such great care of him.
A presentation of a fruit basket was also made by Minister Evelyn; Deputy Director of the Social Services Department, Miss Joyce Moven and Seniors’ Coordinator, Miss Trudy Prentice.
The profile, read by son Edson, indicated that after leaving school, Mr. Elliot started training as a soldier but found that it was not economically viable and quit after a few weeks and handed back in his uniform, despite the threat of his being arrested.
He later became one of the more renowned and skilled tradesmen on Nevis, especially known for his great work in carpentry. He was also a very well-known farmer.
The cake designed by Grace, reflected his varying professions.
A presentation was also made by the Pond Hill community club, by president, Veronica Brandy.
