LEEWARDS HOLD ON TO LEAD IN INTRIGUING CONTEST

The Leewards Islands are holding on to a lead on first innings over Barbados in their first encounter of the WICB regional four day tournament for 2016.

The match commenced at the Warner Park Cricket stadium on Friday 11th November in front of a small gathering of spectators.

Captain of the Leewards Hurricanes, Kieran Powell, won the toss and elected to bat first and they were off to a bit of  shaky start, with Kacey Carty going early, caught behind and Kieran Powell after surviving two difficult chances, while flashing outside his off stump, played some scintillating drives, which had the small crowd buzzing. He eventually perished complements of an excellent diving catch.

The Leewards went on to compile 377, thanks to excellent half centuries from Jahmar Hamilton, Nkrumah Bonner and Rahkeem Cornwall.

The Barbados Pride were then bowled out for 237, giving the Leewards a crucial lead of 175 runs.

However, the Barbados Pride team, bounced back to have the Leewards on the ropes, at the end of day three, on 85 for 5.

With the Leewards though, having an overall lead of 229 runs, the final day, Monday could be a very intriguing one.
