BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, JULY 10TH 2014 (CUOPM) – The multi-million dollar Kittitian Hill project in the Whitegate area of St. Kitts has pumped millions of dollars into the pockets of local contractors, workers and local suppliers.
Prime Minister Douglas during his monthly press conference on Wednesday said Cabinet has just approved another new project in the same area which will continue to benefit every sector of the St. Kitts and Nevis economy.
“EC$38 million has been spent with local contractors and EC$43 million with 77 local suppliers. By December 2014, there will be 14 villas open, and 174 hotel rooms with some 325 hotel employees,” Dr. Douglas told reporters and the Nation.
Prime Minister Douglas said his St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Government remains committed to expand the island’s development focus beyond the Basseterre Valley and the South East Peninsula, and the new Heldens Estate Condo Resort & Residences project like the Kittitian Hill – underscores that commitment.
“This Cabinet-approved development, with its 200 condos, apartments, and villas will be located between Newton Ground and St. Pauls, which as we all know is at the opposite end of the island from the South East Peninsula.
“With this development, of course, will come a range of local design, local construction, local business, and other employment-related opportunities for locals,” said Dr. Douglas, pointing out that of particular significance to the Government – and the nation – is the fact that PEP -trained persons will be able to apply their newly acquired skills to the construction and operation of the Heldens Resort.
