Kittitian born Alicia Lance is Third Army/ARCENT Soldier of the week

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, JUNE 17TH 2013 (CUOPM) – A Kittitian-born soldier is this week’s Third Army/ARCENT Soldier of the week.

According to South Carolina’s “The Item” the soldier is Staff Sgt. Alicia P. Lance, Third Army/ARCENT logistics movement non-commissioned officer.

Spc. Sharman Burch Third Army/ARCENT Public Affairs in a Special to The Item, Lance has been deployed four times since she joined the Army in 1997 — three times to Iraq and once to Kuwait.

Born in St. Kitts, but raised in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, Lance said she is proud to be the first of her Family to serve in the U.S. Army. She said she is most happy to be a first-time mom.

Lance joined Third Army/ARCENT from Hawaii where she worked with the 25th Infantry Division. She said she is proud to have accomplished much during her military career and that she aspires to one day become a nurse.

Q: What are your current military/professional goals?

A: To get promoted to sergeant first class.

Q: What would you like to be doing 10 years from now?

A: I would like to be a nurse.

Q: Besides being a soldier, what did you want to be when you were younger?

A: I wanted to be a judge. I wanted to study law, become a lawyer and then become a judge.

Q: What is your favourite thing about being a soldier?

A: Mentoring young Soldiers.

Q: If you were stranded on a deserted island, what three things would you want with you?

A: My sisters because they keep me laughing and I would need that, a satellite radio and my bible.

Q: If you could spend an hour with anyone, who would it be and why?

A: My brother because he was killed before I was able to see him again.

Q: Where is your favourite place to vacation?

A: Home in St. Thomas.

Q: What was the best birthday gift you ever received?

A: During my deployment in 2007, my roommate worked in food service and when I came back to the room after work, she surprised me with a birthday cake. I was so surprised.

Q: If you could attend any live event, what would it be?

A: A Sade concert.
