Students and teachers from the Basseterrre High School, Charlestown Secondary School,Saddlers Secondary School, Project Strong and the Washington Archibald High School, were proud awardees and certificate recipients at the recently held Junior Achievement Company Program 10th Anniversary Awards Ceremony.
An inspiring featured address was delivered by Ms Betty-Ann Gilbert, owner of Innovative Transport Services Limited and Dynamic Distributers Limited and who also serves as the Honarary Consul to the island of Grenada. During her presentation, Ms Gilbert shared with the audience her obvious ability to do business since at the age of 8 she sold sugar cakes at school for her grand-mother and gave persons who needed change an extra ½ of a cake instead. Ms Gilbert admonished the students to remain focused and pursue your dreams then submitted tips on “How Not to Quit”.
She advised that they should create new environments, cultivate new associates, access new information and look back only for referencing.
During the 2013-2014 cycle, the student companies were judged on the following:
o Business Plan – Won by the Saddlers Secondary School
o Trade Fair – Won by the Basseterre High School
o Financial report – won by the Charlestown Secondary School
The overall winner as best Student Company was the Charlestown Secondary School.Second place winner was the Basseterre High School.
Plaques of appreciation were presented to the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB), The St. Kitts and Nevis Chamber of Industry and Commerce, The St. Kitts Nevis Anguilla NationalBank and Seaton and Foremen Chambers, Bank of Nova Scotia and OD Brisbane and Sons and Island Purified Water, for their significant contribution made in support of the JA Program over the last 10 years.
