The Nevis Equestrian Center, effectively concluded another successful Horseback riding camp, on Friday, August 21, 2020.
Manager at the Center, Miss Erika Guilbert indicated that the camp ran for the period, Monday 17th to Friday, August 21, 2020. Friday’s session was aborted abruptly, due to the pending passage of tropical storm Laura and the fact that the intermittent thunder and lightning were affecting the horses.
Some thirteen children, aged 3 to 11 years of age attended and they learnt the basics in terms of holding the horse; grooming; putting on shoes and actually riding the horse.
One of the participants, Nikedre Hendrickson, indicated that it was a great learning experience and he now knows that you never stay behind a horse; always stay close when you are grooming the horse; keep the reins short and always groom the horse before you put on the saddle.
This week, another camp has started for more advanced riders and one of the highlights of the week will be a costume parade on Wednesday 26th August, which will take the participants, through Cotton Ground and Barnes Ghaut.
