Basseterre, St. Kitts, June 01, 2016 (RSCNPF): The High Command of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force gave the thumbs up to Delta Petroleum for their embrace and support of the ongoing effort by the Police Sports Club in encouraging personal fitness in the ranks through a monthly fitness walk and other sporting activities.
In a brief ceremony yesterday, Delta Petroleum pledged its support to the ongoing initiatives.
Regional General Manager of Delta Petroleum Mr. Bevis A. Sylvester noted the Police Force is usually the first point of contact when something happens in society, and it is essential that they be fit and healthy.
Mr. Sylvester said, “we believe that it is our corporate social responsibility to support the police in any way, form or fashion that will prolong, that will bring respect to, and that will help other businesses in the society to understand the importance in terms of supporting policing in all facets” He added, “and to this end we decided not only are we going to support this wellness drive, but also be a part of it and we are going to join in with the police force and promote wellness within our own organisation as well.” An enthusiastic Sylvester then expressed, “Delta Petroleum will be joining the Police on their upcoming walk….in June and on subsequent walks.”
Police Constable and Chairman of the Police Sports Club Jerry Watts thanked the corporate entity for its donation which he said will assist in getting healthy refreshments for after the walks. Constable Watts said, the monthly walks are becoming social events, and the participation of the general public in welcomed. “We have had three successful health walks already including one in Nevis last weekend and a fourth one is scheduled for Basseterre and will start at the Police Training Centre at 5.30am this Saturday June 4 .” Mr Watts said.
Commissioner of Police Mr. Ian M. Queeley expressed the Police Service’s gratitude to Delta Petroleum for its support of this Police Health and Fitness initiative. He said, “the entire High Command was pleased to hear of the “DP’s” partnership, and was even more pleased when informed that they have committed not only financial support for but will also participate in the monthly walks.” In a note of support for the efforts of the Sports Club, Commissioner Queeley said, “I extend an invitation to the general public to join us…. We really do have a great time.”
