Skipper Anand of the Guyanese team, referred to it as a ‘white wash’ and he was correct. After all, his team had won the three match series, played at the Hardtimes Recreation grounds, by a margin of 3 games to nil, over the Rawlins team.
The final match was played on Sunday 8th September, in front of a huge crowd.
The Rawlins team won the toss and elected to bat first with Carlon Smithen and Jelani Manners, opening the innings. Smithen played a ferocious gem of an innings, hitting no fewer than four maximums and timing the ball sweetly. Manners on the other hand, was not as fluent on a wet, sticky pitch.
Rakeesh and Anand bowled superbly to restrict the Rawlins team to a mere 68 runs.
However, the Rawlins players came out to field, with a ‘never say die’ attitude and the Guyanese struggled to get to the victory target, but eventually dragged themselves over the line, in the 10th over.
