The Joycelyn Liburd Primary School, held its annual sports meet under the distinguished patronage of past student and athlete, Miss Melissa Allen, on Thursday 22nd February.
As usual, a bumper crowd showed up to witness the event and they were well and truly entertained.
It was arguably the most competitive meet of the season so far, as there was a regularity of tight finishes between the athletes and several records were broken in the process.
The track stewards were given their due plaudits by none other than Minister of Sports, Hon. Eric Evelyn, who as per usual, teamed up with Brian Dowe, on the microphone. He complimented them on their efficiency in coordinating the positioning of the athletes for each race. They were: Ramesa Malone; Tricia Williams and Rozel Liburd.
Coach Kurvin Wallace; Headmistress Barbara Hendrickson and the entire JPLS staff and other helpers, were also given due recognition for a well-coordinated event.
Some of the records established included: 100 meters-grade 2 girls-Areyanna Archibald
100 meters-grade 2 boys-Kvante Hobson
100 meters-grade 3 girls-Ellani Phillip (equaled the record)
100 meters-grade 5 boys-Rajaun Fyfield
400 meters-Kindergarten to grade 2 boys-Joshua Liburd
100 meters Kindergarten girls-Rayshawncia Chapman
100 meters-grade 4 boys-Joric Daniel -beating a long standing record, previously held by renowned speedster Tajarie Arthurton
There was also rare entertainment and a definite first, as soon after the completion of the 100 meters events, a pig found its way onto the track; at the starter’s point if you please and gracefully made its way down to the finish line, virtually staying within a set lane.
This naturally created much hilarity for the crowd.
When the smoke cleared the final results were as follows:
Green house-champions-450 points
2nd place- Red house-371 points
3rd place-Blue house-350 points
