The Gingerland Secondary School, celebrated its 46th year of existence on Thursday 25th January.
Teachers, students, representatives from the Ministry and Department of Education, parents and other well-wishers, all gathered in a solemn but uplifting service of thanksgiving, which was held at the Gingerland Methodist Church.
The proceedings were ably chaired by Teacher at the school, Miss Neila Jones, who noted that the school has spent its 46 years in ‘building the nation’s children.’
The program included prayer by Rev. Wendell Samuel; the singing of the national anthem of St. Kitts and Nevis; a praise and worship session, which involved some lively choruses and the scripture reading by a student, Lagida Walters, taken from Psalm 147.
The official welcome was delivered by Deputy Principal, Mr. Kayno David and then the talented Kelsie Edwards rendered a special item of music.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Mr. Kevin Barrett, saluted the teachers, students and parents for the continued longevity and success of the school and opined that one day, one of the students may well be in his capacity, while celebrating the 100th anniversary of the institution.
He admonished the students to focus on their CHARACTER; CONDUCT AND CONVERSATION and noted that that will serve to ensure more success for them and the school.
Another wonderful musical rendition followed, nicely delivered by Shelone and Shelonte.
The school’s choir, not to be outdone, did their version of “I believe I can fly,’ to rapturous applause.
The feature address for the day, was eloquently delivered by Pastor Ron Daniel, who focused on the topic: ‘Your character-the foundation of all worthy success.’
He pointed out that character is not just a trait but a NECESSITY.
He used the biblical example of Joseph, as a general guide and indicated that because of his character, he was elevated from a man sold into slavery, to eventually become a ruler in Potiphar’s house and despite being unfairly treated, maintained his upright character traits and God honoured him to become Governor in Egypt .
He ended his impressive speech by stating that ‘people of character, must learn to run.’
The concluding portion of the program, included two more wonderful selections of special music. One by Destiny Lowe and the other by the teachers.
A group of students also presented a well-choreographed dance and chairperson, Miss Neila Jones, moved the vote of thanks.
The Gingerland Secondary School, was the top school in the federation, as it pertains to the overseas examination results of 2018.
